EFFECTIVE Job Search STRATEGIES
Once you have prepared your CV you are ready to start
your job search .Today, there are essentially four ways to find a job .In this section, You are going to find advice and guidance on job
hunting/ job search, including how to find a job, writing covering letter for that
job application, where to look for Job vacancies, and links to some job sites . I will also give some examples of agencies that can help you in your
job search.
What Job do I want?
You will need to first decide on what you want to do. For example do you want to stay in the same field or change
career direction? If you need help in reviewing your career plans you can get advice from 'Careers Service. These can be found at most departments at the various schools, institutions and Universities. There are also
‘career service companies’. But you will need some legwork to find them.
If you graduated from a university in the last three years you can still use their Careers Service or you may be able to use the Careers Service at your nearest university - telephone them to check what they can offer. It is important to have thought through the types of
job / career you are seeking. This will help you identify potential employers and target your
job applications by presenting clearly what you have to offer.
Setting Job search Objectives
In order to be successful in finding a job, you must set your self objectives for
job hunting. It is not sufficient just to set goals, you must also achieve them. So, to attain your goal of finding a new position, you will have to constantly motivate yourself and set yourself daily and weekly goals. First thing each week, you should set yourself a series of goals for the week and at the end of the week you should check that you have achieved them. When setting yourself goals try to be realistic and set goals, which are achievable, otherwise you will become de-motivated and lose interest in your
job search campaign. Once you have set yourself goals you will have to work hard to achieve them.
If you have been made redundant or are unemployed it can be hard to motivate yourself. Try and stick to your normal daily working routine; if your previous job required you to rise up early continue to do so - do not stay moping in bed all day or be tempted to have a lie in. You should work at least 7 hours per day five days a week. Any less and you are just deluding yourself that you are working hard enough. As well as working hard, it is important to relax in the evenings and weekends, otherwise you will burn out. You can relax with your family, friends or relatives. And by relaxing, I mean making your self-free from nervous anxiety, disturbing tensions-Not thinking about work related issues.
